Moving boxesMoving into a comfortable apartment in Flagstaff can make life easier. But if it creates stress, these tips can help!

1: Why Do People Get Moving Stress?

The simple answer is “the unknown.” We all have a little apprehension about letting go of the control we have over our daily routines. Moving represents a significant break. Once it’s over, you will wake up in a new space. If this gives you pause, keep in mind that you’ll establish new routines quickly.

2: Knowledge Can Help Overcome Moving Anxiety

Knowledge tends to be a powerful elixir when everyday people are worried about the unknown. If you are new to Flagstaff or the neighborhood, conducting an online search of things to do and great eateries may prove helpful. The area offers plenty of outdoor attractions, shopping, history, and culture. By discovering things you enjoy doing locally, you’ll have a go-to list that allows you to plan. Knowledge isn’t just power. It’s also peace of mind.

3: Get Rid of Excess Stuff

Moving a ton of items that you hardly use can be cumbersome and unnecessary. Consider getting rid of some of them to lighten the load. Make a little cash by selling old junk. Turn cool items you’re willing to part with into gifts. Valuable heirlooms may be welcome by family members and loved ones. And if you have bulky furniture you aren't going to use but are not ready to part with — just yet — self-storage tends to be a reasonable way to house items.

4: Moving Day Organization Helps Ease Stress

By boxing and labeling your belongings in advance, transitioning can be more seamless. For example, labeling where each item goes in your great new space minimizes unpacking times. One mental health trick some people leverage has to do with morning-after items. Have that coffee pot or breakfast ready to go and you can start your first day feeling more comfortable.

We hope future residents of Country Club Terrace enjoy these tips. If you or a friend would like more information about our Flagstaff apartments, call us today.

BooksFor people who love to read, there’s no better joy than to share favorite books and discuss each one. Book clubs are ideal for this kind of sharing. When you can’t be with your bookworm friends in person, an online book club organized from your apartment in Flagstaff is a great alternative. Here’s how to organize one.

Choose an Online Platform

You’ll need to find an online platform that supports voice, chat and/or video. One of the most popular ones right now is Zoom, which is free for users who only need an hour. There are other platforms available, too.

Choose Your First Book

Next, you’ll need to choose the first book to discuss. Goodreads offers book club support, with a wide range of reading suggestions depending on which books you’ve enjoyed in the past. Most book-club hosts pick three books so the group members can decide which one they’d like to read and discuss.

Decide on a Schedule

Most book clubs meet up once a week or twice a month, but the schedule you choose will depend on everyone’s availability. Make a shared 30-day calendar in Google docs and ask everyone to block out the dates and times they are NOT available. This will enable you to make up a schedule where everyone is free to virtually attend.

Get RSVPs

Next, finalize the schedule with everyone and get their RSVPs. One easy and cute way to do this is through Evite. Consider sending out a “save the date” invitation. Don’t forget to name the book everyone is supposed to have read by the time the virtual club meets!

Make up a List of Questions

After everyone has had a chance to read the book (two weeks is typical), make up a list of questions to discuss. Some books have a list at the back. Don’t feel like you have to stick to the questions. These are just in case there’s a lull in the conversation.

An online book club is a great way to connect with friends when you can’t meet in person. If you’d like more information about our apartments in Flagstaff, please get in contact with us. They're the perfect peaceful place to read!

Many residents of our Flagstaff, AZ apartments devote some of their time to giving back to the community. If you've been considering volunteering, there are dozens of ways in which you can utilize your time and talents to benefit others. Here are a few ideas:

1. Make Meals for Neighbors

If you love cooking, but you don't really have anyone to cook for, see if a neighbor could use your assistance. Not everyone enjoys cooking, and with kids, busy schedules, or health problems, there are plenty of reasons people might not be able to cook their own meals. Your neighbors will appreciate your gesture.

2. Offer a Class at Your Local Library

Are you a whiz at Excel spreadsheets? Maybe you have a knack for helping people find jobs that suit their unique interests? No matter what you're good at, chances are, someone could use your assistance. Spread your expertise out to your community by holding classes at your local library. Schedule a time that works best for your calendar and invite the community to come learn from you.

3. Volunteer at a Nearby School

Educators in today's world need all the help they can get. If you're up for chaperoning field trips, monitoring outdoor activities, or tutoring students who are struggling, your efforts will be embraced by the school that's lucky enough to benefit from your generosity.

4. Visit a Senior Center

Senior centers offer the easiest way to volunteer because you don't need to do anything but talk. Seniors love to have visitors, and they're usually quite excited to share stories and tales.

After a long day of work and volunteering, there's nothing like coming home to a Flagstaff apartment community where you feel welcome. If you're in search of a place where you can prop your feet up, we'd like to invite you to stop by Country Club Terrace Apartments so we can give you a personal tour of our community!

Kitchen CounterGalley-style kitchens are common in many types of Flagstaff apartments because of the efficient use of space. Modeled after a professional kitchen, the galley features two long countertops around a narrow center aisle. Use these tips to make your galley kitchen as efficient as possible.

Make the Most of Wall Space

The two walls that define a galley kitchen should offer plenty of space for shelving if they're not already covered in cabinets. If the upper cabinets don't run all the way to the ceiling, use the space above them as an extra storage space and display area as well. Hanging racks allow you to organize everything from spices to dishes where you can easily see them.

Add Pull-Out Racks to Cabinets

For existing lower cabinets, expand and organize the storage space inside with pull-out or roll-out racks. You can scan your canned goods, backup dishes, and cooking tools at a glance rather than squatting down to dig through the cabinet's shelves. These racks are easily added to most apartment cabinets with no alterations or permanent installation necessary.

Minimize Clutter

Watch out for too many decorations when dealing with a galley kitchen. Look for food storage containers and dishes with colorful patterns in the colors you prefer to double as decoration when they're stored out on open racks and shelves.

Limit Special Appliances

Regardless of your kitchen's layout, you don't want to clutter the countertops or cabinets with dozens of single-use small appliances. If you have an oven, you may not really need a toaster oven, bread machine, and tortilla warmer. Minimize single-use appliances to leave more space for the essentials.

Set Up Workstations

Finally, organize your kitchen areas by purpose. Spices should be within reach of the prep areas, while dishes should be stored near the sink for faster transfer when they're dry.

Work DeskSometimes, you may not have an extra room to convert into a home office. However, a little creative thinking can help you carve out a comfortable working niche—which is crucial even if the only work you do at home is bill paying and net surfing. Check out these ideas for creating a comfortable workspace.

Wall Bar

Coffeehouses sometimes run a long bar along a wall to expand their seating capacity. You can mimic this in your apartment. Choose a long table with a surface that should fit a laptop and can double as a place to enjoy a meal or display decorative accents. Choose chairs or stools suitable for work or social purposes.

Hall Table

A demilune, or half-circle, table looks great in the front entryway or behind a sofa. It makes a cute desk when you need to break out your laptop at home. You could place one in your entryway, behind the sofa, or anywhere there's space. It has the added benefit of doubling as a display area for photos and treasured decor.

Reinvent the Traditional Desk

If you prefer a regular desk, there are many models that are modern and blend in well with most decor. Place an attractive desk at the end of a sofa with a lamp to double as an end table and workspace.

Small Desks in Place of Nightstands

A small desk can double as a nightstand or vice versa. You just need enough room to fit your legs under comfortably. It also makes midday nap breaks a cinch!

However you customize your space for work and living, do it with flair and functionality in mind. Our apartment community offers one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as two-bedroom townhouses. If you'd like to review available floor plans for our apartments in Flagstaff, give us a call today!
